I’ve always enjoyed the story “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland”.  A whimsical , curious land where white rabbits wear waistcoats and talk, where the Cheshire Cat perpetually grins  and (most importantly) the Mad Hatter has his neverending tea party.

Needless to say, I was really excited about doing this cake. All the memorable elements I had read about had to be included.

the Mad Hatter (or at least his hat),

and of course the white roses the Queen’s gardeners were frantically painting red.

So with these introductory formalities aside, come on in through the gates of Wonderland and be lost for the moment in this fantastical land where things (according to Alice) get “curiouser and curiouser”.

RabbitTyler and friends

This cake was made for a little boy, Tyler who is turning one today.  He is a really adorable baby. His mummy said that he loves birds, hence the little birds covering the cake. She also provided me with the Precious Moments figurine. I’ve  included a mother bird with her baby bird in their nest waiting for the other eggs to hatch. As this cake is for a little boy, I added bees and ladybugs instead of butterflies and flowers. I also included some animal friends for Tyler, a rabbit scrambling to the top to get the carrot and a furry white dog peeking out from under his dishevelled fur. (All figurines are handmade from edible sugarpaste.)

Candy

Candy, lots of candy for a candy themed party.  That was the only specification . This cake is a first in many ways. My first attempt at making a topsy-turvy cake and my first attempt at making dog figurines. Carving out the shape of the cake was messy and later covering it with sugarpaste was another challenge, due to the uneven proportions of the cake. As for the cute dogs, the Pekinese is called Lu-anne(the birthday girl had the honour of naming the dogs) and the highland terrier is called Lily, each figurine took me 2hrs to make. (all figurines and molded details are made from edible flowerpaste) Lu-anne is licking a lollipop and Lily is eyeing the cupcake greedily. Adorable, greedy dogs ….So heres premiering “Claire’s Candylicious Cake starring Lily and Lu-anne.
