I made this next cake for my really good friend, Peng. Peng and I have been friends since we were 13. If I had to describe Peng, I would say she is incredibly smart and I’m not just saying this because I know she’ll be reading this 🙂 but seriously she is really smart, you should see her resume! A marketing genius! Peng is also incredibly brave, life has thrown her so many curve balls that it would make an ordinary person crumble but Peng’s fortitude and courage in the face of it all is so amazing! A daily reminder to me to not sweat the small stuff.

Winnie the Pooh Hunny Pot Cake

Nothing gets me more excited than creating a cake I’ve not done before. So when I heard Wai Ping’s request for a Winnie the Pooh cake for her son’s First birthday, I had to try my best to sound calm and collected. Creating the characters was really fun, especially Tigger. I wanted Tigger to be bouncing ,as we all know Tiggers love bouncing! With some trial and error with a really thick wire, I managed to create a curly tail that could also support Tigger’s weight. I also loved how Eeyore turned out, so much so that I was a little sad when it was time to deliver the cake. This might sound a little crazy but all my creations are like my babies!

A little Angel’s Journey to One Cake

Sometimes you get interesting request that really peaks your interest. This cake would certainly fall into that category. When Vsh first contacted me she was planning her daughter Avshaanya’s first birthday. Vsh is based in the States and was planning to travel back to Singapore to celebrate her little one’s birthday with family and friends. Torn between an angel theme and a round-the -world theme (featuring the different places Avshaanya been to ; Paris, London, San Francisco where they are based and Singapore where she was born), I figured why loose precious sleep over this ,let’s merge the two and so this cake was born. I created each country’s landmarks as toys to make the cake more child like.  This was one of those cakes where my heart ruled my mind. Knowing that creating the landmarks (Merlion for Singapore, Eiffel tower for Paris, Big Ben for London and Golden Gate bridge for San Francisco) out of sugar would be challenging , I was tempted to turn down the request but my heart over-ruled , I just had to give it a go. Here then is the finished product, I’m glad my heart over-ruled my mind.
